How I Work

I work in the here and now, focusing on how you’re maintaining the problem rather than reframing how you feel about what caused it, even if you know what it was specifically.

I have four steps in my process:

1. Discovering where you really are (Where am I?)

Finding out where you are. All problems are about a lack of movement and a lack of direction. For example, it’s common to hear that somebody feels stuck, or that they’re holding themselves back, or that they want to move forward but there’s an obstacle. Or they don’t know what step to take. We find out exactly why you are in your current position so that movement can be reintroduced, often felt as, “I’m moving forward with my life again.”

2. Identifying and dealing with unhelpful feelings (Shifting)

As part of the process we often experience particular negative thoughts and feelings that contribute to our situation. We explore what these are and deal with them using IEMT (Integral Eye Movement Therapy) where appropriate. This can include feelings that we identify as traumatic although we don’t revisit the events.

3. Challenging your established and unhelpful beliefs (Challenge)

A conversational exploration and challenging of how you unhelpfully think about your life and situations. This utilises various approaches to shift your thinking quickly and without resorting to interventions.

4. Self-Discovery through listening to your own reactions and patterns in the session (New Directions and Movement)

All sessions are recorded and you are sent the full recording so that you can listen back. You are then able to take a different position and this enables you to discover what’s helpful and what’s not as well as building on the work we did in the session. Often clients say that this aspect of the work is the most powerful and most surprising.

This is not a rigid, one-size-fits-all approach. It’s highly flexible and completely unique to you. I do what works and don’t do what doesn’t. The results speak more powerfully than I can so please take time to read what it’s like to work with me and the results that you get.
